Permissibility of using glycerine
Question
Pls don't ignore, I know it's long but it's strongly affecting my life and making me suicidal.
In the UK, most everyday products e.g moisturisers contain non - zabiha animal products such as glycerin, making the products najis. Everyone i know uses them, including my family who refuse to stop. I left my family home and live alone as I was getting too anxious about them using these products and spreading the najasah all around the house, such as when my mum cooks she will have the product on her hands and then cook food using wet ingredients and utensils which makes the food najis.
I got a proposal from a man who is has good deen, my family and his family approve but I want to reject him as I would live in his house with his family who also use these najis products. The thought of living with them whilst they have najasah on their hands and body and in the food that I'd eat too istoo much for me. So I am close to rejecting him even though he is good for me. I will try to get his family to stop using the products however if they refuse, I don't know what to do? And i feel like it's not something I can randomly ask them before marriage.
This is ruining my life. I've already abandoned my family due to it and am now rejecting a good man. Can you advise me what to do when people around me use these products as the najasah will spread everywhere that they touch that is wet, such as taps on the sink, the shower and the washing machine as the clothes will be wet and the impurity will spread when they take the clothes out.
Please don't just tell me to ignore the thoughts as that's not working. Can you provide me with some comfort to counteract my thoughts, such as permissability of the usage of these products.
I am ruining my own life and am becoming miserable and depressed. I feel like I'll never be able to get married or have children because of this.
Answer
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful..
Respected Sister in Islam,
Your attitude and conduct towards Najasah is of concern.
Some impure items undergo a metamorphosis which renders them pure. If such items are used externally, due to necessity, it is permissible. [1]
Your attitude and conduct towards Najasah and your suicidal thoughts due to that renders you as a Ma’zur (excused person).
Shariah permits one to use Haraam items in such circumstances. Shariah permits Tadawi Bil Haraam (using impure/impermissible substances for medicinal purposes). Shariah even permits eating pork under circumstances of extreme necessity.
We advise you to seek professional counsel to treat the paranoia which you have developed. [2]
In the interim, you may regard the other items having animal ingredients as permissible and pure. [3]
It is our heartfelt Dua that Allah ﷻ grant you Shifa and peace in life.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
