As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is compulsory to recite the Quraan with Tajweed. It is therefore compulsory to correct one’s recitation of the Quraan according to the rules of Tajweed. [i] The procedure explained in the query of women posting their recitation on the group to correct the Tajweed has benefits and harms.

Creating a group for women to post their recitals and correct Tajweed has its benefits and harms.

It is an opportunity for women to correct their recitation of the Quraan under an expert Qariah. In doing this they will not have to leave the confines of their homes, and thus remain protected from many evils outside the home. Creating a group will also attract many ladies who are otherwise not keen on correcting their recitation and will be a great encouragement because of it being so easy.

However, creating a group is not free from harm as well. All recitations posted on the group can be heard by every group member. This could lead to the ladies looking down on one another. It is also difficult to restrict the group to only Quraan. It is possible that other males will be able to listen to the recordings, especially if it is posted on a group.

We advise those women who are interested in correcting their Tajweed to have a specific time and an arranged class at the house of the Muallimah, or any other suitable venue. The lessons should be in person. In this there is no fear of Fitnah, and this will be more effective in correcting the recitation. 

If that is it is not possible and classes are conducted on phone, then we advise against the group procedure as this has many negative consequences. We advise each woman intending to correct her recitation to have personal, direct contact with the Muallimah and not via a group.
