Wearing tight clothes for Salah
Question
Can women pray in shalwar kameez or in that matter in any such dress that has slits and has something tight underneath? also, are socks compulsory to be worn by women during praying? Also, could you please share the general rulings regarding Men's and Women's clothing?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykumwa-rahmatullāhiwa-barakātuh.
One of the conditions for the validity of salāh is that the ‘awrah (private part) must be covered. The ‘awrah of a woman is the entire body besides the face, palms and feet. [i]
If the shalwar kameez covers the entire body of a woman in salāh, her salāh will be valid.
If a woman performs salāh in a dress with a slit and she is wearing something underneath even though it may be something tight, the requirement of ‘awrah in salāh is fulfilled.
It is not necessary for a woman to cover her feet in salāh. If her feet are exposed in salāh, the salāh will be valid. [ii]
Shariah has advised us to maintain shame and modesty in everything including the way we dress. Hereunder are several guidelines on dressing for males and females:
1. The clothing should be loose to the extent that the shape of the body should not be exposed.
2. The clothing must not resemble the clothing of the opposite gender.
3. The dressing should resemble the dressing of the Sulahā (pious people).

چست لباس پہن کر نماز پڑھنا؟
سوال(۴۴۹):- کیا فرماتے ہیں علماء دین ومفتیانِ شرع متین مسئلہ ذیل کے بارے میں کہ: چست لباس پہن کر نماز پڑھنا کیسا ہے؟ جیسا کہ آج کل نوجوان معاشرے میںٹی شرٹ اور جینس پہننے کا ایک عام رواج ہوچکا ہے؟ تو ایسے کپڑے پہن کر نماز پڑھنا درست ہے؟
الجواب وباللّٰہ التوفیق:ایسا چست لباس پہننا جس سے اعضاء مستورہ کی ہیئت ظاہر ہوجائے، اگرچہ مکروہ اور بے حیائی کی دلیل ہے؛ تاہم اگر کپڑا اتنا دبیز ہو کہ اندر کی کھال نظر نہ آئے تو اس میں نماز پڑھنا درست ہے
