Speaking to a fortune teller

Question

I have a question that my friend (non muslim) at work is like involved in all these horscopes and fortune telling etc.

Now I heard a hadees that a person who speak to a fortune teller his he has disbelieved

so my question is can I speak to my friend who is involved in these things im not asking him to tell my future or anything I speak to him about other things

is that the same as speaking to a fortune teller

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

Abu Hurairah (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrated that: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Whoever ... consults a soothsayer, then he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad." (Tirmidhi-135)

The above Hadith refers to when a person goes to a soothsayer or fortune teller and believes in what he says regarding the future etc.[1]

In the enquired scenario, it is permissible for you to speak with your friend if you are not asking him to tell your future etc.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
