Software Consultant

Question

Assalamu alaikum.

I hope this message reaches you and readers in the best of health.

I wanted to know whether working as a Software Consultant on a project which includes integration by the provider with a lender is permissible?

The one seeking the software services is a company that sells vehicles (let's call them X) with a range of payment options. They want customers to be able to pay by finance.

Now X do not have any dealings calculating the loans as their purpose is to sell vehicles.

There are a few teams one which will integrate X with the lender. Another team will deal with authorisation and authentication when signing up for a loan.

Would it be permissible to work on either team? The work with X is on a 3rd party basis (not employed by them) my intention is to try and earn a halal income and also not compromise faith whilst working.

Any guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

In order for us to issue a ruling, kindly clarify the following:

1.     What is the purpose of integrating the provider with the lender?

2.     What is the sole purpose of the software? Will it be used for acquiring, authorizing, and authenticating loans? What else does the software do?

3.     Is your job to create the software or assist the parties using the software?

You may forward your clarification to admin@daruliftaa.net Ref- Hasan.
