Fatwa #468934 January 2021United Kingdom
In view of Taqdeer, are we suppose to believe weather forecast warnings?
Question
Assalaamualaikum Warahmatullaahe Wabarakaatoh.
Find below an example of my question/Subject:
CYCLONE Chalane
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) released the latest warning on
Tropical Cyclone 07S (Chalane) 26/21Z.
The system is expect to move southwest over Madagascar then westerly and
strengthen over the Mozambique Channel by 28/15Z.
More countries are set to be affected including parts of Botswana
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the conditions of the atmosphere for a given location and time.[i]
Weather forecasting uses available data to make an educated assumption of what the weather will be like in the future. The accuracy of such an assumption varies and is never understood to be definite. None besides Allah Ta'ala knows with certainty what the weather pattern will like be in the future.
In light of the above, it will not be against Taqdeer to take support from weather forecast warnings and prepare accordingly, whilst knowing that whatever is the will of Allah Ta'ala will still surely come to pass.
And the reality is that taking precaution cannot repel Taqdeer, however it decreases the Wasawis (doubts) that naturally come to a person.[ii]
And Allah Ta'āla Knows Best
