Replying to someone when they say that they don't believe in religion but I believe in GOD?

As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. 

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Brother in Islam,

If a person claims he believes in God but not religion, he may be asked the following questions:

1)     Does he believe in a sovereign state or government without a constitution?

2)     What will be the consequence of a state without principles and rules implemented to administrate the state?

3)     This may be further broken down to a smaller level. Does he believe in an organisation without rules? What is the condition of that organisation? Or for that matter, what is the consequence of a family without rules?

4)     If the smooth administration of a government, organisation or family depends on rules and regulations, and adhering to it, surely Allah ﷻ, the Supreme Ruler should have any rules for a person to lead a wholesome and fulfilling life!

5)     If there were no rules from Allah ﷻ, what would then be the yardstick to judge whether the creation is obedient or disobedient? What would be the criteria of their eternal success?

If one analyses these questions and applies his rationale, he will certainly come to the conclusion that together with a Supreme Deity, the existence of and adherence to religion is necessary as well. In reality, religion is the constitution of God. One who claims belief in God, and is sincere in this claim, will automatically submit to religion (command of God) as well.
