Dental student shaving the beard to wear a face mask

Question

I trust that you are in the best of Imaan and health In sha Allah. My name is Muhammed Iqbal Haffejee from Laudium. I received the following question from a friend in Ireland. I would appreciate it if Mufti Saheb could reply to this question as soon as possible.

I wanted to ask you for some advice. I am a dental student and due to the Pandemic, the Dental Hospital requires me to shave my beard for safe fitting of masks when treating patients. After discussing my situation with them, they permit the wearing of a beard that doesn't affect the fit of masks as in the following picture.

What do you advise me to do in this situation because if I don't follow this requirement, I will not be able to treat patients, which will prevent my progression in my course?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We advise you to contact a local Aalim. Alternatively, you may contact any of the following Muftis situated in the United Kingdom.

And Allah Ta'āla Knows Best
