Is surrogacy permissible in Islam?

Question

If a man has more than one wife, can one of the wives be surrogate for the other wife?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The practice of surrogacy or the involvement of a third person in reproduction is not permissible. Alternatively, one may consider adoption. That is indeed a virtuous deed.[1]
