Are bull frog legs permissible to consume?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to the Hanafi Madhab, all water borne creatures besides fish are impermissible to consume.^[1]  

Although a bullfrog may spend lengthy amounts of time in the water, it is not considered a fish. Thus, it is impermissible to consume any part of a bullfrog.  

As the head of the household, you must educate your family and correct their wrong doing. Inform your family that the bull frog they have consumed was Haram. Advise them to make Taubah and Istighfar and to refrain from doing so in the future. 

You may refer to Fatwah #22647 which details those animals that are Halal and Haram to consume.

ولا يؤكل من حيوان الماء إلا السمك ويكره أكل الطافي منه ولا بأس بأكل الجريث والمارماهي

الاختيار لتعليل المختار (5/ 15)

قال: (ولا يؤكل من حيوان الماء إلا السمك) لأنه ميتة فيحرم بالنص، وإنما حل السمك بما روينا من الحديث وأنه يشمل جميع أنواعه الجريث والمارماهي وغيرهما. وعن النبي - عليه الصلاة والسلام -: «أنه سئل عن الضفدع يجعل شحمه في الدواء فنهى عن قتل الضفدع وقال: خبيثة من الخبائث»

 وَالضُّفْدَعُ وَالسَّرَطَانُ وَالْحَيَّةُ وَنَحْوُهَا مِنْ الْخَبَائِثِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - «سُئِلَ عَنْ ضُفْدَعٍ يُجْعَلُ شَحْمُهُ فِي الدَّوَاءِ فَنَهَى - عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ - عَنْ قَتْلِ الضَّفَادِعِ» وَذَلِكَ نَهْيٌ عَنْ أَكْلِهِ

اللباب في شرح الكتاب (3/ 231)

(ولا يؤكل من حيوان الماء إلا السمك) لقوله تعالى {ويحرم عليهم الخبائث} وما سوى السمك خبيث
