Fatwa #4667115 February 2022Pakistan

I heard it is bad to move homes in these Islamic months. Is this correct?

Question

I have heard many people saying that shifting house in few islamic months such as safar or jumada ul awwal or jumada ul akhar  is not good & it can cause some problems in future, Is it true?
And is istikhara very necessary before shifting of house.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Our Iman is on Taqdeer. Every good and bad is decreed by Allah. We do not believe in bad omens or any month having a bad or negative effect in anything.

See the following Hadith:

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: لاَ طِيَرَةَ، وَلاَ هَامَةَ وَلاَ صَفَرَ» (صحيح البخاري-5707)

Abu Hurairah (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrates that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: (There is) no bad omen, nor is there any Haamah (bad omen from owls), nor is there any bad omen in the month of Safar. (Sahih Al-Bukhari-5707)[1]

One may shift house during any month.

Istikharah refers to seeking good from Allah Ta’ala in any important matter or task. It is advisable to practise on Istikharah and seek the guidance of Allah in the decision.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
