Donation from a person who sells drugs - Is it permissible to accept such donations?

Question

If someone's income there is doubt in it basically he sells some permissible things and also Shisha related things. Is it permissible to take donation for a Masjid or Madrassah from such a person due to his income ?

This person also has a reputation of selling drugs.

This person has other sources of income. Like Rental property but the drug factor is still there.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, the income of a person from Halal sources for example, from rentals etc. is Halal.

The income of a person from Haram sources for example, selling drugs will be Haram.

The income of a person from doubtful sources will be Makruh.

In the enquired situation, if the person in reference is known to sell drugs, then the members of the committee should consult each other on whether it is in the interest of the Masjid and the general community to accept his donation or not.

If it is against the interest and welfare of the Masjid and community to accept such a donation, then they should decline the donation.[1]
