If we have a daughter, can we name her Marhalah?

Question

My wife is currently pregnant. If we have a daughter, can we name her Marhalah?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

May Allah grant your wife an easy pregnancy and make your child the coolness of your eyes and a means of reward for you in this world and the hereafter.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said:

إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ

"On the Day of Resurrection you will be called by your names and by your father's names, so give yourselves good names.” (Sunan Abu Dawood: 4950)

“Marhalah” means station, phase, level/stage. [i]

The name Marhalah is suitable.
