Reading Ya Qadiru for protection from abduction

Wa Alaykumus Salaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Sister in Islam,

Rasulullah ﷺ advised us to recite the following Dua for protection:-

 سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: لَمْ يَكُنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَدَعُ هَؤُلَاءِ الدَّعَوَاتِ حِينَ يُمْسِي وَحِينَ يُصْبِحُ .....اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي مِنْ بَينِ يَدَيَّ, وَمِنْ خَلْفِي, وَعَنْ يَمِينِي, وَعَنْ شِمَالِي وَمِنْ فَوْقِي, وَأَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَتِكَ أَن أُغْتَالَ مِنْ تَحْتِي  [ابن ماجة 2871]

Transliteration: Allahumm ah fazni min baini yadaiya, wa min khalfi, wa ‘an yameeni, wa ‘an shimali wa min fauqi, wa a’uzu bi’azomatika an ughtala min tahti.

Translation: Ibn Umar (Radiyallu anhu) says, Nabi ﷺ never left out this Dua every morning and evening “O Allah protect me from my front, behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken unaware from beneath me.”

The Duas stated in the Hadith are most effective.

The prescription of reciting Ya Qadiru is not stated in the Hadith. Rather it is practice on a prescription that is tried and tested. It is permissible to practice on a prescription that is tried and tested. Accordingly, one may recite Ya Qadiru while washing each limb of Whudu.
