Reading Jumuah Salaah after lockdown in a Jamaat Khana

Wa Alaykumus Salaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Respected brother in Islam,

Rasulullah (ﷺ) has emphasized on performing Jumuah Salaah. There are serious warnings for leaving out Jumuah Salaah.

See the following Ahadith:

عن الحكم بن ميناء؛ أنه سمع عبد الله بن عمر وعبد الله بن عباس أنهما سمعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول على أعواد منبره لينتهين أقوام عن ودعهم الجمعات، أو ليختمن الله على قلوبهم، ثم ليكتبن من الغافلين [مسلم] ^[1]

Translation: Hakam Ibn Minaa says he heard both Abdullah Ibn Umar and Adullah Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهم) saying that they heard the Prophet (ﷺ) mention from his blessed pulpit “People who leave out the Jumuah Salaah should most definitely desist from doing so. Lest Allah places a seal over their hearts, and they soon become from those who are neglectful (of Allah Ta’ala)”

Nabi (ﷺ) has also mentioned:

من ترك ثلاث جمع تهاونا من غير عذر طبع الله تبارك وتعالى على قلبه.[مسند احمد]^[2]

Translation: The one who omits three Jumuahs out of disdain for it, without a valid excuse, Allah places a seal over his heart

[Musnad Ahmed]

Another Hadith states:

مَن تَرَكَ الجمعة مِن غيرِ عُذْرٍ، فليتَصَدّقْ بدينارٍ [ابو داؤد]^[3]

Translation: Whoever misses a Jumuah Salaah without a valid excuse should give one Dinaar (gold coin) in Charity.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (رحمه الله) explains that this charity will not absolve one completely of the sin omitting his Jumuah, rather it is hoped that this will be a means of the punishment of this great sin being slightly reduced.  ^[4]This proves the importance of the Jumuah Salaah, and the severity of leaving it out.

It appears in the narration of Abu Dawood: ^[5]

الجمعةُ على مَنْ سَمعَ النداء

Translation: Jumuah Salaah is Fardh upon every person who hears the Azaan.

The Jumuah Salaah at home and offices in towns and cities during the lockdown was circumstantial. Alhamdulillah, Allah has granted us relief and we are able to attend the Masajid. It is against the spirit of Jumuah Salaah to continue performing the Jumuah Salaah at home or in offices.

Do not continue performing Jumuah Salaah at home and at offices due to the habit created during the lockdown and due to laziness to attend the Masjid. This will deprive one of the true spirit of Salatul Jumuah and the Barakah (blessings) that come with performing Salaatul Jumuah.

There are many Masajid, big and small, in Durban and its surroundings. You may search for a suitable Masjid to perform your daily Salaah and Jumuah Salaah.

15738- حدثنا عبد الله، حدثني أبي، حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد، عن محمد بن عمرو، قال: حدثني عبيدة بن سفيان الحضرمي، عن أبي الجعد الضمري وكانت له صحبة، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: من ترك ثلاث جمع تهاونا من غير عذر طبع الله تبارك وتعالى على قلبه.

1035 - حدَّثنا الحسنُ بن علي، حدثنا يزيدُ بن هارون، أخبرنا همام، حدَّثنا قتادةُ، عن قُدَامَةَ بن وَبرةَ العُجيفي

عن سَمُرَةَ بن جُندب، عن النبيَّ- صلَّى الله عليه وسلم -قال: "مَن تَرَكَ الجمعة مِن غيرِ عُذْرٍ، فليتَصَدّقْ بدينارٍ، فإن لم يَجِدْ فبنصفِ دينارٍ"

قَالَ ابْنُ حَجَرٍ: وَهَذَا التَّصَدُّقُ لَا يَرْفَعُ إِثْمَ التَّرْكِ، أَيْ بِالْكُلِّيَّةِ، حَتَّى يُنَافِيَ خَبَرَ: " «مَنْ تَرَكَ الْجُمُعَةَ مِنْ غَيْرِ عُذْرٍ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهَا كَفَّارَةٌ دُونَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ» ". وَإِنَّمَا يُرْجَى بِهَذَا التَّصَدُّقِ تَخْفِيفُ الْإِثْمِ
