Can a woman cut her hair due to excessive falling?

Question

Can a woman cut her hair due to excessive falling? JazakAllah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Islam is a complete way of life. It teaches us how to conduct ourselves in every aspect of our life. In Islam, a woman should be distinct and different from a man. By growing her hair long, a woman remains distinct from men. If a woman has to cut her hair short, she will be resembling men.  The Messenger of Allāh (Ṣallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) has cursed those women who resemble men:

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْمُتَشَبِّهَاتِ بِالرِّجَالِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَالْمُتَشَبِّهِينَ بِالنِّسَاءِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ

Translation: “The Messenger of Allāh (Ṣallallāhu Alayhi wa Sallam) cursed those women who imitate men and those men who imitate women." (Tirmidhī: 3013)

However, if a woman experiences excessive hair falling, she should consult a medical expert vise her on taking medication to avoid her falling.
