Is the actual sin of getting the loan haraam or is the money haraam?

Question

Salaam, my question is regarding loans. When i was a student at university i took some maintenance loans to help me live with stability. I know loans are haraam, may Allah SWT forgive me. My question is: 1) Is the actual sin of getting the loan haraam or is the money haraam? (Meaning everything i bought with that money is haraam therefore the clothes/food I bought is all haraam?) 2) Also, if it does end up being all haraam, does that mean none of my Duas And Salahs have been accepted as i have been wearing haraam? Jazak Allah for this service.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not permissible to take an interest bearing loan. Hence, the act of taking the loan itself as well as paying the interest is a major sin and Haram.

However, the money one receives from this loan itself will not be Haram. Therefore, anything that was bought with this money will not be Haram.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
