Would it be permissible to have a TV in the house?

Brother in Islam,

There are two issues in your query:

1)    What do you mean by TV?

If by TV you mean a television set, in which different channels and programs can be viewed, then it will be impermissible as there are many prohibited issues in TV programmes etc.

If by TV you mean the screen only in which Islamic material from YouTube will be streamed, then it will be permissible. However, care should be taken to only stream material in which the videos are inanimate.

2)    Digital Photography of animate objects is an academically contested issue amongst even our senior contemporary Ulama. Hence, we advise abstaining from taking photos, keeping photos on the phone and sharing photos from the phone to the screen.
