Question
Is my father a Apostate/Munafiq? And how should I treat him? Salam Aleykom, I pray that you are well. When I was young, me and my family immigrated to a country. My father before our immigration was a practicing Muslim, in fact use to take me to mosque with him. However, once we immigrated, he changed gradually. For gaining citizenship he changed his religion by going to the church and giving speech against Islam, but to us he said he didn’t do it at heart. Then still at a young age, he would speak very bad about Islam and prophet Muhammad (s), influencing me to agree with him. Alhamdulillah as I grew up, Allah guided me and I began practicing Islam, learning Quran by myself (he use to refuse sending me to madrasah to learn Quran) and then I learnt sufficient knowledge and answered his every false beliefs about Islam. The problem is, he says he is Muslim, he only prays eid Salah at masjid and that’s it. When I try to correct him whenever he does a minor sin, he tells me to not follow the deen seriously. He drinks also but stopped (at least in front of me) when I became serious in deen. In front of other people he acts religious and shows off with deen, but at home he is total opposite. My mother Alhamdulillah prays, but he has influence on my mother and sister (doesn’t practice). The issue is that whenever I talk about deen in front of family (so that my sister practices the deen aswell), he ridicules by saying you follow too seriously. This has led to my sister not being open when I try to teach her. What should I do? How should I treat him?
