Can Zakaat be given to a revert Muslim?

Question

As salaam wa alaikum

Another question is about zakaah

Can we give zakaah to a revert who is living with her Christian boyfriend or husband but not married according to Islamic rites.

The revert is a practicing Muslim .She fasts n prays salaah as she is my sisters domestic.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

At the outset, one should understand that it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to marry a Non-Muslim man. Such a marriage is not recognised in Shariah.

You state that the revert woman is your sisters domestic. Your sister should take the opportunity and explain the ruling to her.

However, it is permissible to discharge one’s Zakaat to a revert Muslim as long as he/she does not possess wealth that exceeds the minimum nisaab (i.e. 612.35 grams of silver or 87.479 grams of gold) or any currency that equals this amount.

The Zakaat will be validly discharged.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
