Is it permissible to write good fiction stories for inviting people to Islam on Wattpad?

Question

Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakathu. I want to ask if it is permissible to write good fiction stories for inviting to Islam on a site called Wattpad? where there is a lot of free mixing.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

You query relates to two issues:

  1. Authoring Fiction Stories
  2. Social Networking

1)     In principle, writing stories is permissible if the contents are not impermissible. For example, falsely portraying truths, indecent and lude depictions, pictures of animate beings, love stories, and stories that serve no benefit other than entertainment.

Furthermore, authoring books and stories will be permissible if they serve educational  benefits, such as improving one’s literacy skills or is a means of deriving moral lessons. Furthermore, one may write a fictional novel as long as they do not portray true events or real persons in a fictional light, as that would constitute a lie.[i]

2)     Wattpad is a website for readers and writers to publish newstories in different genres. It aims to create social communities around stories for both amateur and established writers. The rulings pertaining to this website will be similar to the rulings for any social networking website.
