Money transferred to my account - Is it Haraam
Question
Assalamoalaikum, My father in law is probably doing migration, tax or some accounting matter of some restaurant business. He organised some businessman to transfer salary to my account fortnightly even though I don’t work for them in their restaurant. But when i received the money in my bank account, i asked my mother in law in detail to what kind of money is it. As i am scared to earn haram money. She said actually they hire students in their restaurant but should be hiring Australian citizens etc in Australia. So my father in law asked them to put my name in it for them to transfer the salary money to me as i am an Australian citizen. I am told that they transferred money willingly. My question is that as I didn’t earn that money and it is like money which is free. 1. Is it haram for me to use it? And 2. If it is haram then how should i get rid of it without being sinful? And if i am not able to pay back what to do? JazakAllah khair
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We commend you for your sensitivity on earning Halaal and abstaining from Haraam. It is this attitude that brings Barakah (blessings) in one’s earnings.
We advise that you directly receive clarity from you father-in-law regarding the reason for transferring the money into your account.
