Question

my father want i will marriage with my cusin (Phopo ki bati) her age is 16 and my age is 25. but my mother not-satisfy with this marriage. she said i did not marriage with my cusin. Kindly answer

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, an adult has an independent right and choice of marriage. It is advisable for a child to consult with his parents on the choice of his marriage partner. Parents too, should consider the best interest of their children in advising them. They should only consider the interest of their children in advising them.[1]

In the situation where one parent is happy with the choice of girl, and the other parent is objecting, we advise you to do the following:

Speak to your parents and in a respectable manner, and tell them that you respect both their opinions. Inform them that you will make Istikhaarah. Explain to them that the guidance of Allah is best. Thereafter, choose what you feel is best for yourself based on the guidance of Allah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
