If one takes a longer route, will he be considered a Musafir?
Question
If one travels for example from Krugersdorp to Rietfontein using the road which is above 80km whilst there is another way below 78km. Will he be regarded as a Musaafir if he takes the route which is above 80km?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle if one takes a route that is 78km or more when travelling from one place to another, then one will be a Musafir.[1]
In the enquired scenario one will be a Musafir when taking the longer route.
