Incident of Ali (Radhiyallahu Anhu) and the wine drinker - Is it authentic?

Question

Assalam-u-alikum Respected Scholar's,

I have a hadith that I heard a long time ago and I wanted to get the actual text from you and reference. It may have been from Hayatus Sahabah or something I've heard in bayans, but I cannot remember. Apologies in advance as I only remember it vaguely:-

A man admitted to drinking alochol, so Ali (RA) didnt believe him. Then the man said yes, I did drink. So, Ali(RA) commanded he be punished. Then, the man said I didnt drink, so Ali(RA) said let him go. Ali (RA) said I punished him due to his word and let him go due to his word.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We were unable to locate the incident in reference with a chain of narrators.
