What is this Hadith and is it authentic?

Assalam-u-alikum Respected Scholar's,
I have a hadith that I heard a long time ago and I wanted to get the actual text from you and reference. It may have been from Hayatus Sahabah or something I've heard in bayans, but I cannot remember. Apologies in advance as I only remember it vaguely:-
A hadith regarding Hadhrat Uthman (RA). A man was sent by the Prophet (SAW) to ask Hadhrat Uthman (RA) for financial help. The man heard Hadrat Uthman (RA) arguing with his wife about using too much oil, so he returned without asking for help. The Prophet (SAW) sent him again...
