What is the ruling on keeping birds as pets and flying kites?
Question
1. Is it makruh tahreemi to keep pet birds. If yes, then what should one do
can the pet birds be sold, purchased, hired, given to anyone for free. What
should i do can i kill it or do i have to let it go free.
2. Is flying kites makruh tahreemi if yes what should i do with the kite can
it be sold, purchased, hired, or given to anyone for free.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to keep birds as pets on condition they are taken care of properly. [1] [2]
It is Mubah (permissible) to fly kites on condition that :
1) It is not done to celebrate or commemorate any occasion. [4]
2) It does not harm anyone.
3) It does not lead to neglecting one's Deeni obligations, like Salaah etc. [5][6]
