Developing betting websites out of necessity, what do I do?
Question
I recently got a job in a software development industry as a software developer. However, the job relies on working for betting websites and systems. Betting is not allowed in islam by any means. As a software deevloper, I need a way to earn for a living, yes and a huge problem is that there are very very few open positions out there in my area, so it's almost impossible to get a normal software development job. I am genuinely concerned by everything as all of it is haram and I am not happily taking any money from it, but otherwise I don't know if there's a way for me to earn for a living. What I had an idea about was to stay working here for a while and then quit once I had enough experience to enter a different development company that doesn't deal with anything gambling related, but I feel that's very far away. I am without ideas and I am hoping to seek for advice here.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Your concern regarding the permissibility of your income is a sign of your Imaan and Allah consciousness. May Allah Ta'ālā grant you halal and pure income. Aameen.
In principle, gambling and betting are strictly prohibited in Islam. Allah Ta'ālā says:
يا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنْصابُ وَالْأَزْلامُ رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
Translation: O you who have Imaan! Indeed liquor, gambling, Idols and (distribution) by arrows are filth (vile acts) from the acts of Shaytaan, so abstain from them so that you may be successful (gain salvation in both worlds). (Surah Al-Maaidah, Aayah 90)
يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثْمُهُمَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْ نَفْعِهِمَا
Translation: They question you about (the permissibility of) liquor and gambling.Say, in both is great sin (because of their ill effects) and some benefits for some man, but the sin is far greater than their usefulness.(Surah Al-Baqarah, Aayah 219)
If the software industry develops software only for betting websites, that will be assisting in sin.[i]
Allah Ta'ālā says:
وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ
Translation: And do not assist each other in sin and transgression. (Mā’idah- 2)
If you do not have any source of income and no alternate job in anything else besides software developing, you may continue your job there and continue searching for an alternate job. Also make lots of istighfaar while working at the present job and make duā to Allah Ta’ālā to grant you halal means of income.
The prophet (Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam) said:
طَلَبُ كَسْبِ الْحَلَالِ فَرِيضَةٌ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ
Translation: Earning Halal income is an obligation beyond other obligations. (Shu’abul-Imaan-Baihaqi)
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.

وفي آخر (باب البغاة) من ((الدر المختار))(1): ويكره تحريماً بيعُ السلاح من أهل الفتنة إن علم؛ لأنه إعانة على المعصية، وبيع ما يتخذ منه كالحديد ونحوه يكره لأهل الحرب، لا لأهل البغي؛ لعدم تفرّغهم لعمله سلاحاً؛ لقرب زوالهم، بخلاف أهل الحرب. ((زَيْلَعِيّ))(2)قلت(3): وأفاد كلامهم أن ما قامت المعصية بعينه يكره بيعه تحريماً، وإلا فتنزيهاً. ((نهر))

"ولا بأس ببيع العصير ممن يعلم أنه يتخذه خمرا"؛ لأن المعصية لا تقام بعينه بل بعد تغييره، بخلاف بيع السلاح في أيام الفتنة لأن المعصية تقوم بعينه
