Fatwa #43143 December 2001Canada

if a muslim man marries a christian girl in the presence of 2 witnessesbut does not announce it to anyone else, is the marriage valid?

Question

is the intercourse performed in this marriage halal?

Answer

If a Muslim male and Christian female marry one another in the presence of
two male witnesses, the marriage will be valid. However, in marrying a
Christian one should exercise extreme precaution as that has major
consequences. It is also advisable to announce the Nikah, the wisdom
underlying the announcement is to avoid any misconception of an illegitimate
and illicit relationship.
