Why are men asked to 'shave' their moustache, when the hadith states that we should trim/clip it?

Answer

There are different words in different Ahadith pertaining to the moustaches (to shorten), (Ihfaa) to shorten excessively etc. In view of the different Ahadith, one may only trim his moustache or even shave it if he wishes to. Shaving falls in the category of Ihfaa.
