Touching a Tafseer kitaab without wudhu.
Question
If I am not in a state of wudhu and I want to recite verses of quran then will it be permissible to take a tafsir book and recite the verses of Quran from there?? Because I heard that we can touch a tafsir book without wudhu.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to hold a Tafsir book without wudhu if the tafsir is more than the words of the Qur’an and the actual words of the Qur’an are not touched.[i] It is advisable to make wudhu to read Qur’an from the Qur’an and this is in keeping with the respect of the Qur’an[ii].

ولا مس كتاب التفسير لأنه يصير بمسه ماسا للقرآن
