Can I speak with my female workmates or go to a team dinner with them?
Question
I work for a company where in, I work with a team inclusive of women.
I want to know the limit of permissibility to talk to a woman as I need to frequently interact with them.
Also, wanted to if it is permissable for me to go on a team Dinner with them as a matter maintaining official relationship...
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.
You may speak to them to the extent of need. However, it is not permissible to go to a team dinner with non mahram women. That is haram and a major sin.[1]
And Allah Ta`ala Knows Best.

بدائع الصنائع في ترتيب الشرائع (2/ 123)
وَالْخَوْفُ عِنْدَ اجْتِمَاعِهِنَّ أَكْثَرُ، وَلِهَذَا حُرِّمَتْ الْخَلْوَةُ بِالْأَجْنَبِيَّةِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مَعَهَا امْرَأَةٌ أُخْرَى

أَمَّا الْخَلْوَةُ فَلِأَنَّ الْخَلْوَةَ بِالْمَرْأَةِ الْأَجْنَبِيَّةِ مَعْصِيَةٌ.
الهداية في شرح بداية المبتدي (1/ 133)
ولهذا تحرم الخلوة بالأجنبية وإن كان معها غيرها
الجوهرة النيرة على مختصر القدوري (1/ 150)
لكن وجد في بعض الحواشي أن خلوة الرجل مع الأجنبية حرام وإن كان معه غيرها
