Can i sell my music CD collection and use the money for charity?

Question

Asalamu alaikum Is it ok for me to sell my music collection and use the money for charity? or is this a bad thing as the buyer of the CD's may be encouraged to listen to music because of me?

Answer

One of the missions of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) was to destroy musical instruments. It is not permissible for you to sell the CD collection and give charity. It will, in fact, be an act of charity to destroy the CD collection. and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best Mufti Ebrahim Desai FATWA DEPT.
