Can I abort a sick fetus?
Question
Asssalamualykum.i just wanted to conform during pregnancy is she allowed to have chorionic villus sampling test done due to genetic disorder as husband wife both carries thalassemia treat. That is inherited blood disorder.that mean there is 50%of chance that baby can be affected .If she go through the test and get to know baby has blood disorder can the mother have abortion under 12 weeks. Jazakallah please let me know sharp.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, if a fetus is diagnosed with a serious disorder which will lead to the child being completely disabled, then one may abort such a fetus on condition it is done before 120 days of the pregnancy has terminated. In the enquired situation, present the medical test and diagnosis to a Mufti for analysis and a Sharia ruling.[i]
