Is it permissible to name a girl as Malaika?
Question
Asslam-o-Alaikum
I want to ask that, is it permissible to name Girls as Malaika. In some references I came to know that Malika name is referred to Angels in islam and by giving name to girl leaves the impact that Angels are females.
Can you please explain in light of Quran or Hadees references?

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In Arabic, Malaika is a plural and a general word meaning angels. It is not advisable to name a child Malaika.[1] For more details, please refer to 27663.

{إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنْثَى (27) وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا} [النجم: 27، 28]

بعض احادیث سے پتہ چلتا ہے کہ اس قسم کے نام نہیں رکھنے چاہۓ اگرچہ روایت ضعیف ہے تاہم فقہاء نے لکھا ہے کہ وہ اسماء جن کا رواج سلف صالحین کے زمانہ میں نہ ہو اور وہ معروف و مشہور نہ ایسے ناموں کا نہ رکھنا بہتر ہے۔
