Hugging after eid
Question
Respected Mufti saheb
What is the shar’i ruling regarding hugging after the eid salah.

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The day of Eid is a day of joy and happiness.
The Sahabah used to congratulate each other on the day of Eid by saying,
تقبل الله منا ومنكم
May Allah accept from us and you
Musafahah (shaking hands) and Mu’anaqah (embracing) on the day of Eid is generally done as an expression of ones joy and happiness.
One should not regard shaking hands or embracing as compulsory in Deen for the day of Eid.[i]

[i] اگر عید کے دن مصافحہ و معانقہ عید کی نماز کے وجہ سے کرتا ہو تو بدعت ہے، اگر عید کی خوشی کے وجہ سے کرتا ہوجیسا کے معمول ہے ایک دو دن تک سنت نہ سمجھتے ہوےخوشی کے اظھار کے لیے تو گنجایش ہےلیکن لوگوں نے اس کو ایک رسم بنالیا ہے لہذا اس کا ترک کرنا مناسب ہے۔( فتاوى دار العلوم زكريا: 2/ 594)
