Having multiple emails for vouchers.

Question

Asalamu'alykum. Some shopping sites offer a "signing up voucher", and to redeem it you have to sign up with your email address. It has become quite popular that users start to create extra email accounts often just for the sole purpose to receive that voucher. In this way a person redeems multiple vouchers. Is this action of creating extra email accounts for this purpose allowed and is it considered to be a form of deceiving the retailer?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Truthfulness and honesty are some of the cardinal principles of Islam. A Muslim should also live by those principles.

Consider the following hadith,

مَنْ غَشَّنَا فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا

“Whoever deceives us, he is not from amongst us. (Muslim) 1

It is not advisable to have multiple emails for shopping vouchers.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
