Is it permissible to use shampoo which contains keratin?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Keratin is one of a family of fibrous structural proteins. Keratin is the protein that protects epithelial cells from damage or stress. Keratin is extremely insoluble in water and organic solvents.¹

It is permissible to use a shampoo containing keratin provided it is not sourced from Humans or Pigs.²
