Is Hijab necessary in front of father in law?
Question
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. My wife wanted to know if she has to wear a hijab in front of my father (her father in law); as we read somewhere that father in laws are mahram so we weren't sure about that. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, the father in law is a mahram for his daughter in law[i].
A mahram is he with who marriage is permanently prohibited.
A woman does not have to observe hijab in front of her father in law. However, a daughter in law should dress in a modest way in front of her father in law especially in these times when immorality is common.
