Fatwa #378020 February 2002United States of America
What are meanings of the following names: Simran, Jibraan
Answer
We ate unable to locate a direct entry for these in our dictionaries. However, according to the principles of lexicology, a suffix of Alif and Noon to any word usually signifies the superlative. Thus,
1. Samraan or Simraan - could possibly mean one possessing a good wheat coloured complexion or one with a radiant face (akin to the moon in radiance). The root word 'Samr' possesses other connotations as well.
Jabraan or Jibraan - from the root word 'Jabr' - means honourable, brave, strong.
