The meaning of the name Zaynah
Question
Salaams and Request your duas.
Please can you give me the meaning of the name Zaynah.
Also what is the sunnahs for naming a baby, is there a process to follow?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Zaynah is the female version of the name Zayn which means beautiful, handsome etc.[1]
A beautiful name should be chosen for the child which would influence the Iman and character of the child. For example, a name linked to Allah such as Abdullah or Abdurrahman or the name of a Prophet of Allah or names of Sahabah or pious people.[2]

زين: الزَّيْنُ: خلافُ الشَّيْن ، وَجَمْعُهُ أَزْيانٌ؛ (لسان العرب [13/ 244] شين: الشَّيْنُ: مَعْرُوفٌ خِلَافُ الزَّيْن، وَقَدْ شانَهُ يَشِينُه شَيْناً. قَالَ أَبو مَنْصُورٍ: وَالْعَرَبُ تَقُولُ وَجْهُ فُلَانٍ زَيْنٌ أَي حَسَنٌ ذُو زَيْنٍ، وَوَجْهُ فُلَانٍ شَيْنٌ أَي قَبِيحٌ ذُو شَيْنٍ.)

حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ وَهُوَ الْمُلَقَّبُ بِسَبَلَانَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، وَأَخِيهِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، سَمِعَهُ مِنْهُمَا سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ، يُحَدِّثَانِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ أَحَبَّ أَسْمَائِكُمْ إِلَى اللهِ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ»
