Janaza questions
Question
1.After Salatul Janaza people try to touch the casket while it's being carried out. Is this Sunna?
2.Also while the deceased is being carried after Salutul Janaza the ones carrying the deceased recite kalima al-tawheed out loud. Is this this sunnat?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
1) It is preferable that a person carries the Janazah for forty steps.[i] Generally people try their utmost best to carry the deceased in order to gain this virtue.
2) When the deceased is being carried, then those following should adopt silence. If anyone wants to perform Istighfaar or Duaa, it should be done so silently.
It is incorrect to recite the Kalima Tawheed loudly while carrying the Janaza.[ii]

(كره) كما كره فيها رفع صوت بذكر أو قراءة فتح
(قوله كره) الظاهر أنها تنزيهية رملي. أقول: لكن إن تحقق الضرر بالركوب أمامها فهي تحريمية تأمل (قوله: كما كره إلخ) قيل تحريما، وقيل تنزيها كما في البحر عن الغاية. وفيه عنها: وينبغي لمن تبع الجنازة أن يطيل الصمت. وفيه عن الظهيرية: فإن أراد أن يذكر الله - تعالى - يذكره في نفسه {إنه لا يحب المعتدين} [الأعراف: 55] أي الجاهرين بالدعاء. وعن إبراهيم أنه كان يكره أن يقول الرجل وهو يمشي معها استغفروا له غفر الله لكم. اهـ. قلت: وإذا كان هذا في الدعاء والذكر فما ظنك بالغناء الحادث في هذا الزمان.
