Loan from a Bank

Question

I took out a tution fee loan when i was in uni and i have been charged interest on it. I know that interest is haraam. I wanted to ask wil i be sinful if i pay the amout back which i borrowed but decide nt to pay the interest back.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuhu

When a person takes out an interest bearing loan from a bank, he binds himself legally to repay the loan with terms and conditions which are interest related.

If one is legally compelled to pay the interest on the loan and there is no way to avoid paying the interest on the loan, he should repent to Allah for the gross sin of taking out an interest bearing loan.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
