Fatwa #329915 October 2001Australia

Asalamu alaykum Can a lady read Qur'aan kareem during her period with intention of Dhikr even

Question

if the surah was long for example Tabaraka when she goes to bed? JazakumLLAHU khayran.

Answer

It is Haraam for a lady who is menstruating to recite the Qur'aan Shareef
with the intention of Tilaawat. However, she is only permitted to recite
those verses that contain the meanings of Du'aa (supplication) with the
intention of making Du'aa, not with the intention of making Tilaawat
(reciting) the Qur'aan.

In the example quoted, it will not be permissible to recite Surah Tabaarak
since it does not contain the meaning of Du'aa.
