Fatwa #3291510 May 2015Australia

Introducing oneself as a follower of a certain sect.

Question

Is it permissible for a Muslim to say to others that I belong a perticular sect, madhab or school of thought like Deobandi, Sunni, ahl-e Sunnah waljamaah, wahaabi etc, or should one restrain from it and introduce him/herself just as a Muslim? What ruling does Quran & Shariah provide on this?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
