How should I name my child?

Question

In what way shall i name my child. Seeing my name is Mohammed Safiuddin Khan and my fathers name is Mohammed Imaduddin Khan. Should i name him as Eg: Mohammed Salahuddin Khan or Mohammed Salahuddin Safiuddin Khan but that would make it too long. Is there any other way that i can name him?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to Shariah, a person is automatically attributed to his father. There is no need to attribute your name to your son. Therefore, if you name your son only as Mohammed Salahuddin, it would be sufficient.
