Is it permissible for a woman to give the Adhan to a newborn?
Question
I wanted to find out whether it is allowed for women to do azan on a newborn child? Is there difference of opinions as I know some woman practice this.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If there are no males present to perform the Adhan, then a woman may perform it.[1]

وقد روينا في كتاب ابن السني عن الحسين بن عليّ رضي الله عنهما قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) : " مَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ مَوْلُودٌ فأذَّنَ في أُذُنِهِ اليُمْنَى، وأقامَ في أُذُنِهِ اليُسْرَى لَمْ تَضُرّهُ أُمُّ الصبيان "
