Fatwa #303017 June 2001South Africa

Was the Prophet (peace be upon him) suicidal when he was about to be granted prophethood.

Answer

After the initial revelation, there was a period of sessation of revelation.
It was in that period that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) was overcome
by extreme grief and deppression to such an extent that at time he would
climb into the high mountains in Makkah and intend committing suicide.
Hadhrat Jibraaeel (Alayhis salaam) would appear and console him him saying,
'Most definitely you are the true prophet of Allah.'

By virtue of which Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) found solace and descended.
