Is it permissible to name a cat Hurairah?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Hadhrat `Abd al-Rahman ibn Sakhr Al-Azdi (Radhiyallahu Anhu) was given the Kunyah (Agnomen) of “Abu Hurairah” due to his close affection and association to cats.

It is permissible to give one’s cat such a name.
