Are all types of smuggling haram?

Question

Are all types of smuggling haram?

My friend is saying that smuggling is not Haram depending upon stuff. Please help me to understand this issue.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Smuggling is defined as “the illegal transportation of goods or people, such as out of a building, into a prison, or across an international border, in violation of applicable laws or other regulations”.[1]

In principle, it is prohibited to violate the laws of a country that are not unIslamic.

Accordingly and in general, smuggling is prohibited.[2]
